Welcome
Since 1993, Hutch and I have been in the business of breeding huacaya alpacas, beginning with solid foundation stock carefully selected from across the country. In striving for quality, we purchased prime Chilean, Bolivian, and Peruvian animals to launch our breeding program. Over the years, we have integrated the strengths from each, making us breeders of the true North American Alpaca! We have also strengthened our breeding program with the addition of new genes over time. The result is a herd of high-quality alpacas. Although we do not participate in shows a great deal, we are consistently in the ribbons when we do. Our customers are also enjoying the same success. A ribbon earned by one of the animals we've sold gives us as much, if not greater, pleasure as one earned by an alpaca that we still own. For us, the achievements of our customers is the true measure of our success!
Philosophy
At Rock Chimney Farm Alpacas, we fully support our industry's goal of developing the finest alpacas in the world. Our goal for each breeding is balanced conformation, striking color, fiber that is soft as a cloud, superior health and production, with no genetic defects. But, we also look closely at temperament. We want to produce superior alpacas that are easy to handle, so that routine chores, such as worming and trimming toenails, can be just that--routine. In working toward this standard, we have carefully selected the herdsires we use for all of these qualities, including temperament. We have found that we are more likely to produce a cria with a calm nature if the sire has a calm nature. Over the years, our alpacas have been recognized for these standards, both in the show ring, and in the field...the result of selective breeding and early training.

Training
In addition to our breeding goals, we have certain standards for our alpacas' behavior. We strive to enter all crias into training prior to weaning. All of our alpacas are routinely handled and trained by a variety of people - making the transition easier when sold. We place such a high value on training, that we've hosted two training clinics by Marty McGee Bennett. If you're not aware of Marty's work, she teaches the "Tellington Touch Every Animal Method" worldwide (now known as CameliDynamics), and specializes in llamas and alpacas. When it comes to training, our bottom line is that our alpacas are comfortable in the presence of people.

What We Offer
Rock Chimney Farm has a reputation for selling only quality alpacas, and providing customers with full support. We care about our animals before and after the sale. To ensure folks are properly prepared to care for our animals, we offer assistance in the planning of their ranch (if this is a new venture), the health and management needs of their animals, and in future training opportunities. We're just a phone call away. Of course, we also fully stand behind any alpaca that we sell. Our support doesn't end when the check is cashed -- as a matter of fact, most of our customers have become lasting friends.
Our Location
Rock Chimney Farm is conveniently located in central Virginia about 8 miles south of Lynchburg. We lie a short distance off of US Route 29, about one hour east of Roanoke, one hour south of Charlottesville, one hour north of Danville, and two hours west of Richmond. So you can see, we are easy to reach from from almost any point within Virginia and many in North Carolina, West Virginia and Maryland.
